HOW TO APPLY FOR  AWARDS AND FUNDING

$5000 LARGE COMMUNITY PROJECT GRANT

PURPOSE:  One-year grant of up to $5000.  Grants are primarily for cultural, educational, civic activities and charitable causes.

 CRITERIA FOR APPLICATION:

Our $5000 Large Grant for Community Projects is awarded to one or more Wallowa County organizations to help fund cultural and  educational programs, civic activities or charitable causes that contribute to the health of the community. Priority will be given to projects that improve the lives of women and children in the community, however, all applications will be considered. We require a project budget which includes administrative and operating expenses as well as program delivery expenses. Requests for $1000 to $5000 dollars will be considered and more than one project may be awarded grant money. Individuals are not eligible for the Large Grant award.

DEADLINE:  May 15

Awards will be made based upon the availability of funds and needs assessment.

Applicants will be notified in June of grant recipient status

Awards will be distributed in June

COLLEGE and TECHNICAL SCHOOL SCHOLARSHIPS

Every year we award college and technical school scholarships to local students.  High school seniors are eligible and can apply through their school guidance counselor or by contacting the committee chairpersons (see below).  Deadline for applying for scholarships for the fall 2025 term is Wednesday, March 19, 2025.

$5,000 CONTINUING UNDERGRADUATE SCHOLARSHIP

This scholarship is to recognize and encourage the continued educational pursuits of an outstanding young woman of Wallowa County committed to achieving a college, vocational or technical education and who demonstrates potential to be successful in her future career path. Applicants may have already won an earlier Soroptimist scholarship. Applications must be received by June 30th.

Up to $1,000 COMMUNITY PROJECT GRANTS

These grants fund various community and individual projects.  They cover a wide range of interests.  Your project should meet our mission of "improving the lives of women and girls" in our community.  

Apply by writing a letter describing your project and you must include a budget.

$2,000 FELLOWSHIP AWARD

The Fellowship Award is presented to a woman who is continuing her education with a post graduate (Master's or PhD) program.  The Award will be paid in its entirely to the college or university the recipient attends.  

The Fellowship Award will be awarded to any women who:  1) resides in Wallowa County;   2)  established in business or a profession;  3)  conducts her business or practices her profession competently and according to ethical standards;  4)  holds a Bachelor's or Master's Degree from an accredited college or university;  5)  presents a plan of worthwhile post graduate study at an accredited college or university leading to an advanced degree or to enhance standing or competence in her business or profession; and  6)  provides such other information as the Fellowship Committee may deem necessary.

$2,000 LIVE YOUR DREAM AWARD

Every year we present a cash award to a woman with financial need and who has primary responsibility for herself or family.  She must be attending an undergraduate degree program or a vocational skills training program.  This award is given directly to the winner to be used for books, babysitting, school travel, etc.
