WHAT WE DO

We are a non-profit, volunteer service organization working in Wallowa County, Oregon.  We raise funds by operating the Soroptimist Thrift Shop in Enterprise.

We provide financial support to these local projects and many more:

Safe Harbors,  Food Bank,  Meals on Wheels, Wallowa County Building Healthy Families, Community Connection Programs, Mammogram Screening, Library Programs,  Individuals and Families who are in need.

We award Scholarships for College and Technical School to local students.

We provide Grants for community projects that improve the lives of women and girls.

We give Financial Awards for women continuing their education and to recognize women and girls who make a difference in our community.

We contribute to international projects directly and through our parent organization, Soroptimist International of the Americas.

Currently our local club is paying school fees for five girls in El Salvador whose families cannot afford to send them to high school.

OUR HISTORY

Soroptimist International of Wallowa County was started in 1947.  The early years of the club were devoted primarily to the county's health care needs.  The Thrift Shop opened its's doors in 1957 in the back of Harold's Dress Shop and has operated continuously ever since.  The shop moved to several locations over the years and finally found a permanent home in the basement of the Odd Fellows Hall in 1983.  The shop survived flooding in 2009 and again in 2013.  It has since been remodeled and spruced up.
